Last night, I went to a public lecture put on by NSCAD University here in Halifax. The speaker was renowned mover and shaker Daniel Libeskind, who just revealed the “Wheel of Conscience” at the Pier21 Immigration Museum here, a truly ‘moving’ commemoration piece … worth reading more about (click on the link).
I just wanted to mention here from Mr. Libeskind’s talk a couple of things that resonated with me as an artist :
• in talking about architecture as language which transfers emotion, he said that “One has to tell a story that is uplifting”. I can relate to that! My way of putting that was by saying that I am interested in creating elegant pieces because ‘elegance uplifts the mind and spirit’.
• in the Q/A, he said this: “You should never stop being a student. Never consider yourself and expert. Always keep investigating!” … which is what keeps any artform fresh. This is what I definitely aspire to!
Thanks NSCAD!
