*Caveat on using the term “recycled gold”:

While I am very careful to source my precious metals only from SCS® certified suppliers (SCS® stands for Supply Chain Sustainability; they are the global leader in the field of sustainability standards and third-party certification). Most of my precious metals suppliers are also members of the Responsible Jewellery Council. However, I want to point out that ‘recycling gold' is not what is commonly understood by the term.

True recycling avoids things ending up in landfills. Gold, of course, wouldn’t.

Instead, gold is simply melted, refined and repurposed.

Although SCS® certified refineries must maintain auditable records of their suppliers, there are loopholes globally which make it very easy for gold from unregulated and/or illegal sources to enter their supply chain.

This makes even 'certified recycled' gold untraceable.

Vancouver, Toronto, Halifax

Ah, it’s that time of year again: time to bring the pieces I make out of the studio, and meet my clients in person at shows, Coast to Coast. This year, I will have 3 stops: Vancouver, Toronto and Halifax. …

Me, too

three, actually.   This wave of anger and tenderness, which has breeched its virtual banks and spills into real-life conversations daily. It makes my daughters call me to have deep conversations. The aspect I am most grateful for is the spreading…

‘Good’ Art

I had the wonderful opportunity to see Spanish dance troupe Compañía Sharon Fridman this weekend here in Halifax.  Led by award winning Israeli choreographer, Sharon Fridman, this remarkable contact-dance based company from Madrid has toured Europe and Asia extensively, and Halifax…

A time of Fruition

I love this time of year so much – the abundance of the earth’s fruits evident everywhere. We also see of course the havoc which nature can create – my thoughts go out to those effected by the storms and…

Balance

After coming back from Harmony Arts Festival, there was much to do – catching up on gallery requests that had come in while I was away, and starting on the custom rings ordered at the festival in Vancouver.  It is…

Thank you, Vancouver!

Thank you so much, Vancouver. Although slightly weighed down by the haze from the interior BC forest fires, the Harmony Arts Festival was once again a joyful event. I just love being in the company of such good fellow craftspeople…

Appreciate

The first weekend of Harmony Arts Festival in West Vancouver just ended, and there are now a couple of days of rest for the artisans, while other activities continue at the festival. I look forward to returning on Friday for…

I have just returned from my annual meditation retreat in the gorgeous Nova Scotia countryside. Thus I am refreshed and renewed to pack my bags and head across the country for the annual Harmony Arts Festival. I have been to this…

Just a lil’ bit MapleLeaf proud

Today is the anniversary of my arrival in Canada. I am very aware that many, many people were here before me, and that many people were here long long before the colonial settlers. The earliest carbon-dated Mi’kmaw artefacts date back…

Quality

I have just returned from a quick and exhausting trip to Las Vegas, where the world of jewellery just convened for several of North America’s biggest tradeshows. If you follow my blog, you will also know that I was, of…

Parallels

Maybe it is the brain of the creative that makes metaphors so often. Here is a fresh one just from last night. I recently started watching a very cool Netflix original documentary series called Abstract: the Art of Design. Definitely…
