Invitation to LustreWorks Holiday Show and Sale
I have many friends who are artists in a variety of disciplines: painters, dancers, weavers, blacksmiths, photographers and potters, to name but a few. It is a pair of the latter two with whom I will be having a special event again this December: our third annual LustreWorks Holiday Show and Sale, December 6, 7 and 8 at 5765 May Street. You are cordially invited to stop by!
The potter, Mindy Moore, creates wonderfully earthy vessels, including hand built and wheel thrown high-fire stoneware and raku. Her work has a delightful simplicity and directness of form and function. She will have available wonderful bowls, covered containers, vases and platters as well as newly designed cups and trays made especially for this season.

Mindy’s husband, photographer Marvin Moore, will show photographs from the series “Season of Light”, exploring houses, their Christmas lighting and the mood of the Season. Observing the seasonal jewellery of a neighborhood — colourful, humble and poignant — the houses are dressed up but not quite ready to party. This work is a continuation of Moore’s fascination with night photography and the way the camera reinterprets artificial lighting. I am particularly excited to see this work, new to my eyes as it will be to yours!

I will have with me many of the usual suspects: pieces in the Onefooter Series: rings made from one or more foot lengths of silver or gold, with and without Canadian diamonds. I will also have some new pieces available (watch my Facebook Page, Dorothee Rosen Designer Goldsmith, for further posts with details!), as well as some pieces which will be on sale at a reduced price. And, brand-new: SoapRocks™ ! Blended from organic herbal extracts, nourishing vegetable oils, vitamins and minerals, from aquatic, botanical, and terrestrial sources. Made in the USA, to look exactly like rough precious stones. I think they go very well with Marvin’s photographs, and certainly will make a great stocking stuffer.

The sale will be held at Moore’s spacious and handsome photography studio at 5765 May Street. Note that there is a goldsmith’s studio on the corner of May Street at Robie; that is pas where we are. MayStreet Studio is next door to the Ecology Action Centre.
Friday night’s opening reception, 7:00-9:00 pm will have the best selection of one-of-a-kind pieces by these three Halifax artists.
Friday, Dec 6 7:00 – 9:00 pm
Saturday, Dec 7 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
Sunday, Dec 8 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
PS: if you go to Marvin Moore’s website, you’ll see fabulous comedienne Cathy Jones on the cover page, wearing many bangles, including some made by yours truly ;)
PPS: I’d better add some photos of some of the things I’ll be bringing!
