After my epic trip to Cape Breton, I went to visit with my friend Tiiu Poder, co-owner of Aphrodite Art and Fashion, in Antigonish, NS. Tiiu put on a fabulous dinner, and I was delighted to observe my daughter holding her own in adult company. At twenty, she is certainly old enough, but still one forgets sometimes. To sit back and listen to how eloquently she expressed her sophisticated opinions was a true pleasure.
The next morning, we went to the ‘famous’ fish&chips window at Cribbons Point Wharf, what fun!
We then took the scenic route to PEI, driving up to Cape George, and then along the coast to the ferry. This reminded us of when the kids were little … fun!
On PEI, we checked out some exhibition possibilities, which landed us at the beautiful Confederation Centre of the Arts. One exhibition in the art gallery there was -I thought- well done: if you find yourself on PEI make sure you don’t miss Ni’n na L’nu: The Mi’kmaq of Prince Edward Island.
Great use of multi-media: inside each wigwam is an audio environment which draws visitors into the world of Epekwitk’s Mi’kmaw Elders through stories and music.
Even the inside, the surfaces present evocative images and texts.
Also amazing was the retrospective exhibition on island artist Hilda Woolnough. The ConfederationCentre is definitely a great exhibition space, and one well worth considering!
We spent another evening with friends, before leaving the island, along the scenic route again, a day early due to the persistent rain.
Speaking of rain: my thoughts go out to everyone in Colorado – stay safe!
