*Caveat on using the term “recycled gold”:

While I am very careful to source my precious metals only from SCS® certified suppliers (SCS® stands for Supply Chain Sustainability; they are the global leader in the field of sustainability standards and third-party certification). Most of my precious metals suppliers are also members of the Responsible Jewellery Council. However, I want to point out that ‘recycling gold' is not what is commonly understood by the term.

True recycling avoids things ending up in landfills. Gold, of course, wouldn’t.

Instead, gold is simply melted, refined and repurposed.

Although SCS® certified refineries must maintain auditable records of their suppliers, there are loopholes globally which make it very easy for gold from unregulated and/or illegal sources to enter their supply chain.

This makes even 'certified recycled' gold untraceable.

Flow Ring No. 31 in Fairmined ECO 18k yellow gold, size 11.75

Flow Ring No. 31
Size 11.75

Flow Ring no.31 in Fairmined ECO 18k yellow gold, size 11.75

This ring would be an amazing man’s wedding ring. The rich texture, reminiscent of tree bark or driftwood might make the perfect wedding band for a nature lover. I love how the ‘wrap’ symbolizes the coming together of two energies – as is true in a partnership. Nice, right?

The Process:

These rings are created in an ancient Japanese technique. I melt beeswax from my local beekeeper with Portuguese pine resin, then cool the wax enough to handle.

Through repeated folding and stretching, many layers are formed, like when making a croissant, or taffy! … except the process is a lot slower. I would say even meditative.
In this way, I create many many waxes, inspired by the movement of water, driftwood, and the texture of calligraphy brushes – and the flowing wax itself.

After a creation session, I pick the very best ones to cast in luscious and ethical 18k Fairmined ECO gold.
Because each one is cast in lost-wax method, each ring exists only once. A treasure!

The Material:

The FLOW Series is cast in certified ethically mined gold – there is only one mine in the world, the Oro Puno Mine in Peru, which meets the stringent environmental and social standards to carry the label “Fairmined Ecological Gold.”

• Small-scale operations with minimal environmental impact

• Guaranteed minimum price for workers

• No use of toxic chemicals such as mercury

• Purely mechanical extraction

• Safe working conditions

• No link to conflict zones

• Better trade relationships

• Fairmined Premium for social, economic and environmental development

• Rehabilitation of native ecosystem
