While I am very careful to source my precious metals only from SCS® certified suppliers (SCS® stands for Supply Chain Sustainability; they are the global leader in the field of sustainability standards and third-party certification). Most of my precious metals suppliers are also members of the Responsible Jewellery Council. However, I want to point out that ‘recycling gold' is not what is commonly understood by the term.
True recycling avoids things ending up in landfills. Gold, of course, wouldn’t.
Instead, gold is simply melted, refined and repurposed.
Although SCS® certified refineries must maintain auditable records of their suppliers, there are loopholes globally which make it very easy for gold from unregulated and/or illegal sources to enter their supply chain.
This makes even 'certified recycled' gold untraceable.
TwoTone OneFooter Ring in 18k Yellow & White Palladium Gold
$8,890.00
Hand-forged from SCS® certified recycled gold 18k yellow and palladium white golds.
Over the years, I have often been asked to create my signature OneFooter wrap ring in a two-tone version, using yellow and palladium white golds. Finally, you have it!
With half a foot of each colour, where and how the strands overlap will vary, making this version even less predictable than the OneFooter rings of the same gold colour.
I start by soldering together the two 18k gold tones, making that solder joint disappear, then forging the two-tone strand. Only then do I begin wrapping the gold to form the ring.
As in all OneFooter spiral rings, where the metal changes shape is where it will want to change direction during wrapping. The direction is as much led by the metal itself as it is guide by the maker’s hand. I love this dance between metal and maker!
The last step is to finalize the shape to form the wrapped metal into a comfortable ring.

Made from 100% SCS® recycled 18 karat gold sourced from Umicore and/or Stuller Inc., who apply an exclusively SCS-certified recycling process for their gold and silver. They are both members of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC).
Note my caveat about the general use of the word "recycled gold."
