Positive feedback …. I had forgotten how important that is. The NSDCC Summer Craft Show this past weekend was a real feast of it for me!
First, a lady stopped by the booth, really eager to meet me, because of how much she loves the ring she bought at Two Macs Gifts and Handcrafts on the Cabbot Trail in Cape Breton. She told me the story of how the owner of Two Macs said that so many people had coveted this outrageous série Script ring, but it never really fit anyone, how it fit herthe minute she put it on, and how much she loves it. This is the beauty and the curse of working as I do, creating these series of one-of-a-kind pieces, each unique. This was a true example of what I always say about my rings: the ring finds the finger!
She came around my booth to give me a big long hug, with tears in her eyes. I had such goosebumps! I was very appreciative of receiving so much appreciation!
The next day, the leadership of the Craft Council gathered around my booth to present me with an award for the Best Body of Work. Here is what the jurors wrote:
“Dorothée Rosen demonstrates in her jewellery a coherent yet ever-evolving approach to materials and form. While her work is often abstract – at times even conceptual – it remains playful and accessible. By referring to a wide range of sources of inspiration, her pieces point to novel parallels in the realms of culture and nature.”
Displaying the award in the booth prompted many more praises, with several viewers concurring that they also thought my work to be most unique, cohesive, and elegant.
Needless to say: I had a fabulous weekend. The weather was amazing to boot, and attendance was high. I loved being able to talk to people directly about my work, and really appreciated all feedback – including a gentleman pointing out to me that he wishes he could find hand crafted jewellery for men. Ha! What an eyeopener. I shall definitely consider this! While many Onefooter rings are sold to men, especially in the bigger cities like at Noel Guyomarc’H in Montreal, there is definitely room for a gentlemen’s line … Mmmmh … something to think about!
Ok, and now I start getting ready for my big trip across the continent, to Calgary, Edmonton, Banff, and Seattle, as well as two weekends of the Harmony Arts Festival in Vancouver!
It was a perfect weekend, thank you for taking part, and for sharing your words and images. Congratulations on your award. Julie Rosvall, Program Coordinator
And thanks for all your awesome hard yet cheerful work in support of us artisans, Julie!
