*Caveat on using the term “recycled gold”:

While I am very careful to source my precious metals only from SCS® certified suppliers (SCS® stands for Supply Chain Sustainability; they are the global leader in the field of sustainability standards and third-party certification). Most of my precious metals suppliers are also members of the Responsible Jewellery Council. However, I want to point out that ‘recycling gold' is not what is commonly understood by the term.

True recycling avoids things ending up in landfills. Gold, of course, wouldn’t.

Instead, gold is simply melted, refined and repurposed.

Although SCS® certified refineries must maintain auditable records of their suppliers, there are loopholes globally which make it very easy for gold from unregulated and/or illegal sources to enter their supply chain.

This makes even 'certified recycled' gold untraceable.

To take a breather

Talk about breath: the Avondale Garlic Festival was a lot of fun.   I love the events those folks put on: excellent quality of everything!

I thought I’d take a moment and talk a little bit about where I buggered off to there on my last little trip. I have spent a lot of time travelling this summer, usually for work. This last trip wasn’t for work: I went on a ten-day meditation retreat in the hills of Nova Scotia, at a wonderful Shambhala meditation retreat centre near Tatamagouch, NS, called Dorje Denma Ling.

The program I attended had a pretty strict schedule: first, pre-breakfast meditation session started at 7am. So I got to see a lot of sunrises!

Taking time to slow down opens one’s eyes to detail in the environment:

Accommodations are simple, but sufficient.  There is fancier, but I like to be close to nature.

Dorje Denma Ling is known for its magnificent skies.

This program was attended by 42 people from as far away as Moscow and Southern Mexico!

I made a new friend, look!  I just adore this amazing work by artist Murray Barber. He created this 6.5′ tall copper sculpture for his graduating show at NSCAD University.

This amazing sculpture by an artist who's name keeps escaping me (promise I will give credit later!!) is really MOST AMAZING!!

So much space, in my head, and outside!

This land is amazing. The 'practice pavillion' up ahead.

So now I am back in the studio, with renewed energy, lucky enough to work on several gold pieces, and starting to get ready for the November holiday shows, including the CircleCraft show in Vancouver, and NSDCC show in Halifax.
