‘Happy’ Holidays

Share on:

Hanukkha has come and gone, but Christmas is still ahead, and the mounting pressure is palpable. Yes, you read correctly: pressure.

As you may have read here, over the past several weeks I have been attending various art markets. When this started with Vancouver’s CircleCraft Market in early November, it was almost difficult to ‘get into the spirit’ so early. Time has flown by, however, and Christmas is almost here. Despite my best intentions to be well prepared, I was surprised to find myself under pressure in the end, after all: orders needed to be filled, packages sent. I can feel it with my suppliers, too – they are scrambling to keep up. People on the streets are distracted and impatient, pressured. Not what one would hope, coming towards a festival which, in its origins, simply celebrated the return of the light – days starting to get longer again.

As the day approaches, I look forward to the space and quiet that will follow, and I vow to continue to re-balance and re-focus. The annual urban retreat at my local mediation centre will surely help with that, as will sharing meals with friends and family.

I hope that you, too, will find joy and space over the next few days, and I wish you and yours the very best for the holidays, and a splendid 2016!
