Ok ok, I know I have to get ready to head out to John Little’s blacksmithing shop, but before I leave I just have to tell you about the amazing concert I saw last night: lovely Canadian artist, poet and songstress Sarah Slean in concert with Symphony Nova Scotia. Oh my, what an amazing concert that was!
I just love that artist’s obviously apparent passion: she loves being on that stage. Symphony Nova Scotia teams up with ‘pop stars’ regularly, but in this case it was apparent that Sarah Slean wasn’t ‘trying’ to perform with the symphony, but it actually seemed like her dream come true. Her lyrics and music are powerful and beautiful, but her apparent passion, for life, for music, for everything, is something I relate to very well.
Besides her own music from “Land and Sea” (if you don’t have it, get it!) Sarah also performed the premiere of the CBC commissioned collaboration with Canadian composer Christos Hatzis. “Lamento” is based on the well known aria “When I am Laid in Earth” from Henry Purcell’s opera Dido and Aeneas. Oh my, how sad, how full, how amazing! The despair was palatable in the room. Such excellent talent.
Thank you, Sarah, for this unforgettable concert!
