Sometimes I come across a gemstone which is so unusual, I can’t pass it up. So it is with this one. I thought those black slashes through the red sapphire were really really cool. They reminded me of the black ink of my calligraphy practice.
This sapphires comes from the Winza mine in central Tanzania, an area that was only discovered to carry corundum gemstones in 2007. The black slashes are ‘solid inclusions’, as another mineral (most likely amphibole crystals) would have become trapped inside the gemstone during its formation. It certainly gives this gem a very unique signature.
Did you know that rubies and sapphires are the same mineral – corundum. A red corundum gemstone will, depending on the level of red, be defined as either a red sapphire, or a ruby. This one is a red sapphire. It has a faceted oval cut and weighs 1.03ct
On top of a 2.5mm comfort-fit band., this one-of-a-kind Celebration ring has, like my other rings, a full bezel, as opposed to claws, which can snag on clothing, must frequently be checked, and eventually be replaced/re-tipped.
What is being celebrated? Shall it be an engagement ring, a birthstone ring, part of family stackers, or a ring to celebrate a special milestone? Well that, my friend, is up to you!
