*Caveat on using the term “recycled gold”:
While I am very careful to source my precious metals only from SCS® certified suppliers (SCS® stands for Supply Chain Sustainability; they are the global leader in the field of sustainability standards and third-party certification). Most of my precious metals suppliers are also members of the Responsible Jewellery Council. However, I want to point out that ‘recycling gold' is not what is commonly understood by the term.
True recycling avoids things ending up in landfills. Gold, of course, wouldn’t.
Instead, gold is simply melted, refined and repurposed.
Although SCS® certified refineries must maintain auditable records of their suppliers, there are loopholes globally which make it very easy for gold from unregulated and/or illegal sources to enter their supply chain.
This makes even 'certified recycled' gold untraceable.

Flow Ring No. 33
Size 6.5
The rings in the FLOW Series first come into existence in wax; when they are shaped, there is no room for hesitation – one fluid movement wraps the ring. You get that sense of movement with this ring – its end overlapping its beginning, it makes a perfect allegory for a marriage or union – Two come together as One – or the completion of a cycle, a big task finished.
For the ancient Japanese technique applied here I mix local beeswax with tree resin. When folded again and again over itself, the viscosity of the resin and wax being different, striations typical of ‘Mitsuro Hikime’, form. Each wax is created individually. Because the technique is temperamental, I make many many waxes before the perfect one arises. This, then, is cast in lost-wax method – making each ring completely unique.
I cast these rings in the single-most ethically mined gold I could find, Fairmined Eco Gold To Be Proud Of . There is currently only one mine in the world which meets the stringent environmental and social standards to carry the label “Fairmined Ecological Gold“: the artisanal Oro Puno Mine in Peru.
Unlike other artisanal mining, gold there is mined without the use of mercury, cyanide or other potentially harmful chemicals. This gold is traced meticulously, and audited by 3rd parties. The miners and their communities receive a premium to maximize socio-economic benefit.
With the purchase of this ring, you improve lives.
You can see how this FLOW Series sustainable ring would make an excellent ethical wedding band.
