All jewellery is handmade and shipped from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and therefore is exempt from tariffs for USA customers under CUSMA, the free-trade agreement. I always ship with a certificate of origin for customs.

*Caveat on using the term “recycled gold”:

While I am very careful to source my precious metals only from SCS® certified suppliers (SCS® stands for Supply Chain Sustainability; they are the global leader in the field of sustainability standards and third-party certification). Most of my precious metals suppliers are also members of the Responsible Jewellery Council. However, I want to point out that ‘recycling gold' is not what is commonly understood by the term.

True recycling avoids things ending up in landfills. Gold, of course, wouldn’t.

Instead, gold is simply melted, refined and repurposed.

Although SCS® certified refineries must maintain auditable records of their suppliers, there are loopholes globally which make it very easy for gold from unregulated and/or illegal sources to enter their supply chain.

This makes even 'certified recycled' gold untraceable.

Flow Ring No. 39 in Fairmined 18k Yellow Gold, size 6

$4,680.00

Flow Ring No. 39
Size 6

The generous width of over a centimetre really shows the rich texture of this Mitsuro Hikime ring in solid 18k Fairmined gold  from the Iquira mine in Columbia. Inspired by calligraphic brush strokes and the movement of water, each ring in this Series is unique and different.

Originally created in wax, this ring then underwent a lost-wax casting method. The ancient Japanese technique of Mitsuro Hikime does not leave room for doubt or hesitation: it starts slow by melting together the fragrant mixture of  local beeswax and Portuguese pine resin. Worked at body temperature, the wax is then folded and stretched again and again. Eventually the tension between resin and wax form striations, the rich texture you see here.
Once the wax finally has the perfect texture, it is carefully stretched to the desired thickness, and then wound in one swift motion – there is no room for error, or one has to start anew. In this way, the process is both slow, and in the end quite swift.

This particular ring is significantly less hefty than its cousin No.34.

This gold is traced meticulously, and audited by 3rd parties. The miners and their communities receive a premium to maximize socio-economic benefit. This truly is gold to be proud of:

• Fairmined Premium for social, economic and environmental development
• Guaranteed minimum price for workers
• Better trade relationships
• Safe working conditions
• Small-scale operations with minimal environmental impact
• Purely mechanical extraction
• No link to conflict zones
• Rehabilitation of native ecosystem
• Rehabilitation of native ecosystem
