One-of-a-Kind #187 || 18K Yellow Gold Onefooter Ring with Red Spinel, Size 9

One-of-a-Kind #187 ||
Size 9

Spinel is one of my favourite stones right now. This very sparkly gem comes in many colours; my favourite is this colour red. I am particularly fond of the combination of spinel and 18k yellow gold. It has something so regal about it! This cushion-cut spinel has an inclusion. It is not oil-filled, as more commercially available stones might be. This refined spiral ring beautifully coils its loops of gold.

Spinel is a fairly new addition to the birthstone categories – it signifies August. A fun fact from my gem merchant Pierres de Charme states the following:

“Historically, spinel was often mistaken for ruby.  Both gems are often found in the same deposits, they look alike, and they have similar chemical compositions; it was not until the 18th Century that spinel was correctly identified as a separate mineral.  As a result of this confusion, many famous “rubies” are in fact spinel. ”
