Maybe it is because I am a jeweller and thus very detail oriented. Or maybe it is because I am German, or a woman, or all of the above, but I am super fussy about having things ‘just so’. This also applies to creating my new print material, which I will introduce to you now.
My wonderful graphic designer, Katja at LalaNova, did a great job pulling it all together for me: new postcards, business cards, a product insert, and my shiny new product catalogue. Etc. Press printed most of the material. They are just so great at doing things just right. I am very fussy about the tiniest details, and they worked great with me. For example, I wanted one side of the postcards to be an image of highest print quality (CMYK off-set), and on the other side, I wanted the text to be in exactly the same Pantone colours as my bussiness cards. So they printed one side CMYK, and the other in Pantone colour. The cards are perfect.
Next were product inserts: if someone receives a gift of my work from someone, I want them to read a little bit about how I work and think. The insert explains just that. I also hand-sign each insert: the ‘hand of the maker’ is involved in every bit of what I do!
Same with the business cards, each one of which is hand-embossed with my maker’s mark.
I really think that, in a world full of cheap jewellery which is mass-produced overseas, it is important to highlight the quality and uniqueness of locally hand-made work. I could go on and on about this, but will spare you (at least for today).
I also want to tell you that the pattern on the cards is taken directly from an image of bare vines in the winter, photographed against the sky. The same photograph inspired the Knot series. … there are many such hidden connnections in my artistic output. I think a lot!
Finally, I also pulled together a catalogue, as well as little satin bags to keep the work protected in the client’s jewellery box.
I hope I didn’t bore you with this post. It took a couple of months to pull the new print material together, so there is a real sense of accomplishment, which I wanted to share with you!
