A well-timed surprise snowfall on Friday gave Nova Scotians a White Christmas this weekend.
On my walk through the snowy morning yesterday, I came across a site that instantly brought to mind the work of Kye-Yeon Son, one of my wonderful professors at NSCAD University.
It’s really worth checking out her work. She was, as all my professor’s at NSCAD University, a very demanding teacher, demanding excellence, pushing further. I think her work is pretty amazing. It is currently on display at the Mary E. Black Gallery in Halifax! Go see it!!
And watch this video:
Kye-Yeon Son – 2011 Winner of the Governor General Award for Craft (Or read an article here.) The video was produced for the exhibition that was mounted at the National Gallery in Ottawa, where the Governor General’s Award winning works were exhibited. Last summer, I was so proud to be able to go see Kye’s work there. It really is the highest of honours in this country, and to see craft displayed in a gallery setting like that, really is something else.
Enjoy the season, enjoy the snow if you have it, enjoy the quiet after the hectic days of pre-Christmas business, and most of all: enjoy and appreciate those you love.
Merry Christmas!
