Ah yes, the new year has taken off with lightening speed, hasn’t it. Fortunately, I was able to participate in an urban retreat over the holidays at our local Shambhala Meditation Centre. The daily schedule of 9am -6pm was perfect for me: I could be silent and still, work with my mind all day, and then go home, walk my dog and relate with a few things I couldn’t leave unattended. It was really wonderful. Meditation and contemplative arts play a big part in my life; they provide the balance for working really hard the rest of the time. Besides daily ‘plain old’ sitting meditation, I also practice contemplative photography, having studied with Michael Wood and Andy Karr, as well as meditation Kyudo, Zen archery. I would like to tell you more about this wonderful discipline some time soon! It really plays a big part in my life.
For now, a brief note there will be a public talk at the Shambhala Centre in Halifax this Wednesday evening at 7pm, and an introductory program will take place this Sunday, January 15th, at our Iba in Herring Cove. On Wednesday at the Shambhala Centre, you could come see me do a short-distance demonstration :)
Yes, that’s me on the left. These images were taken in early Spring at our outdoor range.
You can read more about the practice of Kyudo here (scroll down for English versions). If you have a minute, watch the sweet video at the bottom of that page.
A bientot!
