You may recall that in June, I was writing about creating a special piece for Monica Bauché, the wonderful hostess and co-owner (with her husband Dennis Johnston) of the most excellent FID resto here in Halifax (you can find the June post here). The piece was created to commemorate the birth of their daughter Melanie’s second child.
I had finished the piece a while ago, but it is only today, September 15th, that Monica will present the piece to her daughter, and I didn’t want to spoil the surprise! So now I can finally show you the finished piece that came from that lovely collaboration. Here it is:
When I went to bring the piece by the restaurant, Monica and Dennis were delighted. Dennis treated me to try some of his home-cured proscuitto, and I am telling you: it was a to-die-for! Best prosciutto I ever tasted. And I am saying this as a European! What a great artist he is with food, that Dennis!
Well, the piece is in Europe right now, probably changing hands as I write this! I hope Melanie will be pleased.
