Orlando, Florida
You haven’t heard from me in a while. This is because I had been preparing like mad for my first US wholesale trade show. There is so much involved … The main issues being the logistics of how to make my pieces cross the border in order to show them in the US.
I managed all the logistics ok, and finally arrived here in Orlando, Florida. Here are the surprising things I learned so far:
I learned that I hate air-conditioning. After an air-conditioned airplane, and air-conditioned airports, I arrived in Florida only to be stuffed into an air conditioned shuttle bus, and from there into a hotel with windows that won’t open. I almost thought that I couldn’t feel my own body any more. I wasn’t sure was I well or might I be coming down with a cold, was I thirsty or was I tired … I just wasn’t feeling well. Even the hour in the (air-conditioned) hotel gym didn’t seem to bring any relief.
I only realized what was wrong when, the next morning, I walked across the empty field and grassy parking lot towards the convention centre … Inhaling fresh outside morning air, I realized what had been missing all those previous 36 hours. how glorious it is: AIR!
The second thing I realized is that love is not always the most practical choice. Let me explain: I travelled, as I often do, with the beautifully beat-up leather bag that once was my mother’s school-teacher bag. I love that bag and its history. I remember my mom carrying it on our way to school. But, having carried said bag around for several days now, always full to the brim with all manner of things necessary for the show day (including a couple of bottles of water, of course), I have decided that it truly was a bad choice. Next time, for a shlepping events like this, I shall bring a sensible carrying device, like a backpack perhaps. I really am getting too old for foolishness of this sort. My body being a temple and all ….

And perhaps the third thing I may possibly maybe have learned is that …
well, that 25 degrees Celcius and sunshine, with a warm breeze, in January, may, when one happens to encounter it, not be a bad thing, after all ……
