Sisters In Steel: A Celebration Of Women Blacksmiths

Share on:

I was very excited to attend the Sisters In Steel event in beautiful Annapolis Royal. Three women blacksmiths gave talks and demonstrations, and everyone was invited to try their hand at it!

Opening Remarks were made in the King's Theatre. You can hear some of this on the podcast, see link below.

It turned out to be a fabulously gorgeous day, which was such a blessing, as the portable forges were, of course, set up outside.

Three portable forges were set up right on the shore of the river for the demonstrations

The women blacksmiths who were kind enough to talk about their work and show us how to swing a hammer were Becky Little, Alexa Jaffurs, and Barbara Schmeisser.

And then everybody got to try!

I loved the different portable forges.

Brad Hall, a local blacksmith and one of the organizers of this event, was on hand to help:

Louise Renault, host of CBCs Information Morning, was there, and did a lovely piece on the event. Click here for the podcast!

I had a really great time. This was the perfect lead-in to my exploration in blacksmithing by way of mentoring with Brad Hall and John Little. I am off to my first day in John Little’s studio tomorrow!  I can’t wait…
