This past weekend, I got to have a visit with the Snyder twins, Reverie and Jackson. You may recall the tragedy that followed their birth, see ici.
Meeting these babies in person on their first visit to Halifax was very special to me. It rubbed their mom Michal’s absence in my face, this beautiful vivacious woman, whom I was so close to, twenty years ago. It reminded me how I could have stayed in touch better and didn’t; how we must cherish the friendships we have, the people in our lives that have grown close. Because death comes without warning.
I met Jay, the twins’ dad, for the first time. I couldn’t imagine looking him in the eye, to face the pain he has endured by the passing of his wife, the mother of his children. I was such a coward, and the gracious invitation of the family this weekend gave me an opportunity to work with this.
This visit equally rubbed life’s determination in my face: the babies are strong and sweet and smart and loved. They are growing beautifully, just starting to pull themselves up and along furniture, getting into all kinds of trouble.
Many many people have helped in the first few months of these children’s life, and continue to do so (see ici). Their dad, Jay, still has got his hands full, that’s for sure. The whole family clan has become very strong, very close. It was very special for me to experience this beautiful family bond, and to watch and hold these strong young beings, evidence that life is a miracle.
